Why Screenshots Fail in Court
If you've ever tried to use text messages or email screenshots in family court, you know the problem. Opposing counsel challenges authenticity. The judge questions whether messages were edited or taken out of context. And screenshots of a phone screen carry almost no evidentiary weight.
The Three Pillars of Admissibility
Court-admissible records require three things:
- Authenticity — proof the record hasn't been altered
- Completeness — the full conversation, not cherry-picked messages
- Verifiability — a way for the court to independently confirm the record is genuine
How Kinvana Handles Each Pillar
Append-Only Messaging
Kinvana is built from the ground up for evidentiary integrity. Every message sent through our platform is stored in an append-only database. Messages cannot be edited, recalled, or deleted once sent. This immutability is the foundation of court-admissible records.
SHA-256 Hash-Chain Integrity
We go further with SHA-256 hash-chain integrity. Each message is cryptographically linked to the previous one, creating a tamper-evident chain. If any message were altered, the hash chain would break — providing mathematical proof of tampering (or its absence).
Certified PDF Exports
When you need records for court, Kinvana generates certified PDF exports with PKI digital signatures. Each export includes a 16-digit verification code that anyone — your attorney, a mediator, or a judge — can use to verify the record online.
Federal Rules of Evidence
These features are designed to meet Federal Rules of Evidence standards (FRE 803(6) and 902(11)–(14)) for certified business records. While no platform can guarantee admissibility — that's ultimately the judge's call — Kinvana gives you the strongest possible foundation.
Available on Every Plan
Court-admissible records are included in every plan — including our free tier. Because documentation isn't a luxury — it's a necessity for every co-parenting family.
